அப்பளம் கூட்டு I APPALA KOOTU I PAPAD POTATO MOONG DAL KOOTU
Hi friends, here is the simple and
healthy lentil/paruppu kootu with add of appalam in it. Its called as Appala
Kootu or Papad dal gravy. It is Tamil Cuisine, which is loaded of proteins and
carbohydrate. Potatoes give unique taste to the kootu and have to use plain
urad dal papads, not masala papads…

CHIMLI I RAGI SESAME SWEET BALLS I KEZHVARAGU ELLU LADOO I RAGI TIL LADOO
Hi friends, here is the very healthy and
delicious sweet, ragi sesame balls which is also called as Chimli/Kezhvaragu
ellu ladoo… Easy to prepare and the taste is really awesome. I tried the chimli
from Aval Vikatan supplement book, after I tasted the ladoo, decided to do it
often. I post the delicious ladoo for two events, Cooking from Cookbook
Challenge which is conducted by +Srivalli jetti for CC Challenge of the month and Let’s Brunch on Sunday which is
conducted by +Veena and +Priya akka.

INGREDIENTS
Ragi flour – ½ Cup
Brown sugar – 6 Tbsp
Peanuts – 2 Tbsp
Sesame seeds – 1 Tbsp
Water – To knead
METHOD
- Add ragi flour in mixing bowl and pour little water knead it well.
- Heat dosa tawa, flat the roti by hands on the tawa cook on both sides, and keep it aside.
- Broken the roti into small pieces after cool it.
- Dry roast the sesame seeds and peanuts till golden brown, and cool it aside.
- Pulse the peanuts, sesame seeds and light brown sugar twice, then add the broken ragi rotis and pulse it 2-3 times into coarse powder.
- Now transfer into the bowl, make equal size balls.
- Serve the ladoo.
NOTE
- Original recipe used jaggery instead of brown sugar.
- If you wish add cashew nuts and badam while grinding to get rich flavor.

Hi friends, after two days of break
again here to blog the simple left over idli recipe. Upma is our family
favorite, and the idli upma is all time favorite but this is my first tried at
home but tasted a lot during my hostel days. You can make the simple and
delicious idli upma in a jiffy.

INGREDIENTS
Idlies – 5
Oil – 3 Tsp
Channa dal – 2 Tsp
Urad dal – 1 Tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 Tsp
Dry red chillies – 2, broken
Green chillies – 2, sliced
Shallots – 10-15, chopped
Curry leaves – Few
Salt – To taste
METHOD
- Crumble the idlies like rava by clean hands and keep it aside.
- Heat oil in pan; add channa dal, urad dal and mustard seeds wait for sputter.
- Add dry red chillies, following by add shallots, curry leaves and green chillies, and then add salt sauté it till the onion turns translucent.
- Now add crumble idlies and mix it well on low flame for 2 minute, then switch off the flame.
- Serve it hot with your favorite dips…
NOTE
- You can add turmeric powder and your favorite veggies with it.
- Don’t crumble the idlies while hot, it will be mushy, I kept in refrigeration for an hour and then crumbled.

Green Cardamom – ½ Cup
Granulated White Sugar – 2 Tsp
METHOD
- If you have facilities for sun-dry keep it for 1 hour. (Optional, ease the grinding)
- Mix the cardamom and sugar into the blender, pulse it 2-3 times.
- Transfer into a plate and store it in air-tight container.
- Ready to give flavorful sweets…

VARAGU VEN PONGAL I VARAGU KHARA PONGAL I PONGAL RECIPES I KODO MILLET RECIPES
Hi friends, its bit late to post the pongal recipe, but its very healthy and delicious pongal. Varagu (Kodo millet) is very nutritious and suits for healthy menu. It’s perfect for healthy breakfast/dinner and diabetic friendly. As I already, prepared varagu payasam/kheer, varagu idli. We used to add millets like ragi, varagu, thinai (foxtail millet) and Sorghum (Jowar/cholam) in our weekly menu to reduce the white rice portions.

INGREDIENTS
Varagu rice/Kodo millet – 1 ½ Cup
Moong dal – ½ Cup
Ghee – 1 Tsp
Oil – 3 Tsp
Cumin seeds – 2 Tsp
Crushed Black peppercorns – 2 Tsp
Hing – ½ Tsp
Ginger – 2 Tsp, Chopped
Curry leaves – Few
Salt – To taste
Water – 6 Cups (Adjust according to your rice)
METHOD
- Soak the varagu rice and moong dal together for 20 minutes.
- Heat oil and ghee in pressure cooker; add cumin seeds and peppercorns wait for sputter.
- Add hing, curry leaves and ginger sauté it till the raw smell goes.
- Now add rice and dal and mix it once then add water and salt stir it well.
- Cover the pressure cooker with lid and put vent after pressure release.
- Switch off the flame after 2 whistles.
- Wait for 15 minutes, then open the pressure cooker and mix it well.
- Serve it hot with coconut chutney and sambhar.
NOTE
- For health conscious, I added oil with little ghee, you can replace the oil with full ghee, it will enhance the taste.
- Roast the moong dal in ghee and soak it for extra taste.
- Crushed peppercorn is optional, you can add whole peppercorns.
- You can make the same way to make samai, thinai ven pongal.

Hi friends, pea paratha are very healthy breakfast or dinner. Green peas are rich protein. You can make the easy stuffed paratha for breakfast or dinner. I love green peas at any form, and its one of my favorite stuffed paratha. It will be so delicious and greeny in color… Its very good for lunch box recipes… I already made green peas kachori, which is my most favorite one…

INGREDIENTS
Chapathi Dough – As you require
To grind
Fresh or frozen green peas – 1 Cup
Green chillies – 3
To Temper
Oil – 2 Tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 Tsp
Ginger garlic paste – 2 Tsp
Turmeric powder – ¼ Tsp
Salt – To taste
Garam masala powder – 1 Tsp
Fennel seed powder – ½ Tsp
Pepper powder – ½ Tsp
Coriander leaves – Few
METHOD
- Boil the green peas with immersed water for 10 minutes and drain it completely.
- Cool it and grind it with green chillies into smooth paste.
- Heat oil in pan; add cumin seeds wait for sputter and add ginger garlic paste, sauté it till raw smell goes.
- Add the ground peas mixture and sauté it for 2 minutes then add turmeric powder and salt, sauté it.
- Then add garam masala powder, fennel powder and then pepper powder sauté it for 2 minutes or when the mixture will be good thick. Switch off the flame and cool it for 5 minutes.
- Make equal balls of chapathi dough and green peas mixture.
- Now roll the chapathi dough and put the greenpeas on the center of the dough, cover it as shown in the picture and roll into circle or square.
- Heat dosa tawa, cook on both sides by drizzling oil and take it out.
- Serve it hot with tomato thokku or any of your choices.
NOTE
- You can use dry green peas too. Soak overnight and cook.
- Even it does not need any side dish.
