Hi friends, today come with an interesting and healthy soup... First time I tried soup and posting first soup recipe too… I wanted to try the soup for long time to start my diet plan but somehow its getting postponed continuously and yesterday I got time to make this yummy and healthy soup…

I am not a soup lover even I don’t love cabbage too. We friends just discussed about weight loss diet, and then +Sangeetha M akka and +Priya R sis suggested me to try out cabbage soup… Mostly I prefer to have in the form of kootu with dal not poriyal… But the soup turns me to its side as a great fan. Thanks for your suggestion dearies.J 

I did the recipe with half-minded only but the aroma was soothing me and appetizing me. I added some cooked toor dal to thicken the soup. It’s worked well and taste was really delicious and filling soup. While I took photo of the soup my dad came for his lunch and asked me what this is? I said cabbage soup, do u have some? He too tasted and gave good compliment and it’s emptied in 5 minutes.J I too enjoy the every sip of the soup. I strongly recommend u to taste the soup…

Little About Cabbage
Cabbage has good nutritious vegetable. It is a leafy type of vegetable from the family of Cruciferae with scientific name of Brassica oleracea. The leaves are compacted and grow in heads close to the ground. There are more than hundred type of cabbage with color ranging from pale green to dark purpled-red and is very low in calories.

  • Cabbages are rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene, vitamin E, its over all vitamin content is 3 times more than tomatoes. It has abundant of antioxidant and also strong anti-aging effect.
  • Cabbages are rich in folic acid and have the anti-bacteria, anti-inflammatory effects.
  • Cabbage is rich in indoles has the anti-cancer effects and is good for preventing colorectal cancer.
  • Cabbage is a great diet choice for those who are looking for lose weight. One cup of cooked cabbage contains just only 33 calories. That’s why people who are on the cabbage soup diet can eat endless amounts of the soup without gaining weight, while still staying healthy.
  • Good source of sulforaphane, which is a good stimulant to human cells in producing enzymes that useful to the body. The enzymes are acted as a thin film layer that protects human cells against external carcinogens.

Preparation Time
5 Minutes
Cooking Time
20 Minutes

Olive oil – 1 Tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 Tsp
Red chilli flakes – 1 Tsp
Shallots – small 10
Garlic – 10 pods
Tomato – 2 Medium
Shredded cabbage – 1 Cup
Oregano – 1 Tsp
Cooked Toor Dal – 1 Tbsp
Salt – To taste
Pepper powder – To taste
Water – 2 Cup or as required

  • Heat oil in a pan; add cumin seeds and red chilli flakes wait for till cumin turns brown.
  • Add shallots and garlic sauté it for 2 minutes or till raw smell goes.
  • Then add tomato sauté it for 2 minutes then add shredded cabbage and sauté it for 1 minute and add oregano.
  • Pour water with little salt and allow it to boil till all the ingredients cooks well on low flame and switch off the flame.
  • After it cools down pour it in blender with 1 Tbsp of toor dal and blend it well. 
  • Now again add the puree into the pan, then add salt and pepper powder to taste and boil it for one minute then switch off the flame.
  • Serve it hot!!!

  • You can add uncooked toor dal with veggies instead of adding in final stage.
  • Add cornflour with water instead of dal to thicken the soup.
  • Adding carrot to the soup will enhance the taste.
  • I used oregano is optional but its taste really great.
