Hi friends, here is the virtual birthday
treat for one of my close friend as sis, +Nalini Akka from Nalini’s Kitchen. We
group of friends in FB planned to post virtual treat on her special day with
her favorite theme which is Tamil Cuisine. Yes! She loves our Tamil foods much,
so we friends also giving her favorite recipes from her blog…
Nalini aks is a very jovial and sweet
person. She is very down-to-earth, caring and loving sis, and she is lovable wife
and wonderful mom of 2 lil charms… We are getting known each other one year
before, and now she is one of my best friends as sis. Here is my small virtual
treat on her special day…
I have chosen the recipe, Paruppu Puttu,
puttu is authentic breakfast recipes in Tamil Nadu. Paruppu puttu is new to me,
till I have seen in nalini akka’s blog. It was tempted me so much and I have
noted down to make it, but this is the
right time to make the delicious and healthy puttu on her special day. The
puttu is awesome in taste and very nutritious and am sure kids too love it
much. You can prepare the puttu as breakfast or snacks.

– Nalini’s Kitchen
INGREDIENTS
Chana dal/Bengal gram – ¼ Cup
Moong dal/Green gram (splited) – ¼ Cup
Toor dal/Red gram – ¼ Cup
Idli Rice/Parboiled Rice – ¼ Cup
Salt – 1/8 Tsp
Sugar – ½ Cup
Grated coconut – 2 Tbsp
Cardamom powder – 1 Tsp
Sesame oil or Ghee – 2 Tsp
METHOD
- Soak the chana dal, Moong dal, Toor dal and Idli rice together for 2 hours and drain it.
- Put the dal mixture into the blender and add little water grind it to coarse paste.
- It should be like idli batter consistency, so adjust water quantity while blend and do not make smooth paste.
- Now grease the idli platter with oil or use idli cloth, pour the batter into idli pan and steam it for 15-20 minutes.
- After the idli turns warm crumble the idli by hand or you can use grater too.
- At this time the puttu will be cool, and warm it by reheating in oven for 2 minutes.
- Now add the sugar, cardamom powder and grated coconut mix it well tills combined everything.
- Serve it… J
NOTE
- Instead of sugar you can add jaggery or brown sugar.
- Crumble the putter after its warm or cool.
- You can make it as savory version by tempering mustard, urad dal and chillies.
- Adjust sugar according to your taste.
- I added sesame oil; we usually add sesame oil to puttus…
- You can add ghee roasted cashew nuts and raisins to get rich flavor.
