Hi friends, sambhar powder is must in
every South Indian homes, Right? Homemade sambar powder is even more special
and used to make sambhar twice in a week. I too love sambhar much, one of my
favorite sambhars are Coimbatore Anna poorna sambhar and other one Dindigul
Meenakshi Bhavan sambhar… My mom sambhar is also super good in taste; I love to
have all time with idli and dosa… We usually buy anna poorna sambhar powder,
and this time my mom makes the sambhar powder at home.
Here is the recipe for homemade sambar
podi/powder, which is a blend with dals, red chillies, pepper corns, coriander
seeds and other 5 ingredients. Have to sundry the dry chillies and coriander
seeds for one day and then use for long shelf-life.

INGREDIENTS
Dry red chillies – 250g
Coriander seeds – 75g (3/4 Cup)
Fenugreek seeds – 15g (1 Tbsp)
Mustard seeds – 10g (2 Tsp)
Cumin seeds – 30g (2 Tbsp)
Black pepper corns – 30g (2 Tbsp)
Toor dal/Red gram – ¼ Cup
Chana dal/Bengal gram – ¼ Cup
Urad dal/Black gram – ¼ Cup
METHOD
- If you have enough facility to sundry, make dry the red chillies and coriander seeds for one day.
- Heat pan on low flame.
- Dry roast all the ingredients one by one till the nice aroma comes from it, dals should turn to golden brown, not to burnt.
- Transfer the each ingredient into dry plate and the cool it completely.
- Blend it in your mixer into coarse – smooth powder.
- Cool it completely and store it in air-tight container.
- Ready to use…
NOTE
- Store it in air-tight container for long shelf-life.
- Take small amount in separate container for regular use.
- Dry roast is important.
