Thiruvathira or Thiruvathirai or
Aruthra Dharisanam is a Hindu festival celebrated for lord shiva. The festival
will be celebrated on the Thiruvathriai star on full moon day. Its also know as
Mangalya Nonbu on South Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Every married woman will follow
fasting to the longevity of husbands. Unmarried girls also follow fasting to get
married good person. They will have food before the sunrise of the day and
follow fasting and complete their fasting while the moon rise in the evening.
We usually do 16 kaikari kootu, Inippu
appam, medhu vadai and Karuppati vadai with rice, dal and rasam. After doing
the Pooja tie yellow rope on the hands (unmarried women) and the neck (married
women). Then complete our fasting with these neivediyum. I have shared Thiruvathirai
Inippu Appam which we offer for the god of the special day. The appam is my most
favorite, but we prepare only 7 appams on the special day and reserve the
remaining batter in refrigeration and will prepare it on next day to enjoy… J
