Hi friends, snacks are very tempting and lovable one. If you have left over idli/dosa batter too, you can make crispy and tasty snacks. Punugulu/punukulu (Bonda with idli/dosa batter) is an Andra Pradesh special snack with idli/dosa batter.

Even I do not hear the bonda name as punugulu, and did not try also. When I landed to Desi Fiesta of +Manjula, I got to enjoy the Andra Thali was just awesome. She made so much effort to give the delicious platter and I was tempted to have all the recipes in the thali… But I made only punugulu and so tempted by seeing her photograph of the snack. After the next day of seeing the crispy snacks on her space, and I tried it came out so well and we enjoyed the deep fried bondas…

INGREDIENTS
Idli batter – 1 ¼ Cup
Onion – 2, finely chopped
Cumin seeds – 2 Tsp
Rice flour – 1 Tbsp
Semolina/rava – 1 Tbsp
Besan flour – 1 Tbsp (Optional)
Curry leaves – Few
Coriander leaves – Few
Hing – ¼ Tsp (Optional)
Salt – To taste
Green chillies – 2-3, chopped
 Oil – To deep fry

Punugulu (3)


METHOD
  • Add all the ingredients except oil into a wide mixing bowl.
  • Mix it well and keep it aside for 30 minutes.

  • Heat oil in pan, check with small pinch of batter. If its floats immediately after drop into the oil. Its ready to fry.

  • Pinch small amount of batter with your hand or using small ladle.
  • Deep fry it till golden brown and drain it in tissue paper.
  • Serve it hot…
