how-to-make-puttu

INGREDIENTS
Raw rice flour – 2 Cup  
Salt – To taste
Water – 2-3 Cup
Coconut, scraped – ¼ Cup
Sugar – 6-8 Tbsp or to taste
Cardamom powder – 1 Tsp
Sesame oil – 1 Tbsp

METHOD
  • Boil the water with require salt and take the flour in wide bowl.
  • Now add the boiled water little by little to the flour and mix it well using wooden ladle.
  • It should be like crumble not like dough, so add water little by little.
  • It looks like crumbs and takes some flour in your hand and presses it with your fingers as I shown in the picture (6).

  • The shape should be firm; it should not break down while leaving fingers.
  • It is the correct consistency and keeps ready the steamer or idli cooker.
  • Put towel, and add the rice flour to it and steam it for 15-18 minutes.

  • Meanwhile, add coconut, cardamom powder, sugar and oil in wide bowl.
  • Now transfer the steamed puttu to the bowl, and mix it well till everything combined.
  • Serve it hot…

NOTE
  • Sesame oil will give unique taste to the recipe.
  • You can add ghee roasted cashew nuts, raisins with 1 Tbsp of ghee instead of adding oil.
  • Add powder jaggery instead of sugar.
