Hi friends, rasam or soup is all time favorite and in every South Indian home, rasam will occupies constantly. We can make number of rasam varieties, and here I have prepared kollu/horse gram rasam. Kollu is a type of lentil which has many benefits including relief cold to weight loss.

Making rasam is easy process, but I must say more number of spices in it and aids for easy digestion too. So that we are complete our dinner with some amount of rasam rice. Its very good for kids too. I have already shared the homemade rasam powder, and its handy to make the rasam quickly.

Kollu-paruppu-rasam

INGREDIENTS
Kollu/Horse gram – ½ Cup
Rasam powder – 2 Tsp
Tamarind – Lemon size ball
Tomatoes – 2, chopped
Green chillies – 1, slited
Garlic, crushed – 2 Tbsp
Salt – To taste
Coriander leaves – 3 Tbsp, chopped
Curry leaves – 1, sprig
Oil – 1 Tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 Tsp  
Urad dal – 1 Tsp
Hing – ½ Tsp

METHOD
  • Pressure cooks the dry roasted horse gram with 3-4 cups of water till 3-4 whistles.
  • After reduce the pressure, strain the water from the cooked horse gram and set aside the lentil.
  • Now add rasam powder, tamarind, tomatoes, green chillies, curry leaves, coriander leaves, crushed garlic and salt to the kollu water.

  • Meanwhile, heat oil in pan; add mustard, urad dal seeds and add hing, wait for sputter and pour it in the kollu water mixture.
  • Set aside for 15-20 minutes, now mix it well with your hands till combined well with the flavor of tamarind, tomatoes and spices.
  • Cook the rasam, on low flame till the bubbles comes.
  • Do not allow boil the rasam, it will spoil the taste of the rasam.
  • Switch off the flame.
  • Serve it with hot rice.
